Basically, you follow the instructions in the box. Notethat the DVBWorld software had a very similar set of prompts.

[Instructions for checking that the USB 2.0 is set to use hi-speeddrivers should be here -see the PDF manual on the disk. Unlikely to be relevant to a modern PCrunning Windows Vista or Windows-7.]

Next, obtain your installation file. There is one on thesupplied CD, or you can download the latest software here. At the time of writing, the latest drivers and application software for WindowsVista were the 'DK5702 - 20071107 update VistaDriver and updated application pack' files. This is actually a RARformat file, and requires the UNRARutility to unpack it. Use a command such as:

to expand the downloaded files into a set suitable forinstallation. This should result in a directory V2.0build02_20071102 Dexatekcontaining a number of files and directories, including the all-important setup.exe.

If the Dexatek drivers are off-line, you can also use the DVBWorld drivers with the Dexatek hardware. Go to the DVBWorld download page, find the DVBWorld Software and Drivers section, and download the 'DVBWorld Software' (big remote control). This should provide a file DVBWorld-V2.0.rar which you can expand as described above. Look for the DVBWorld directory, and locate the setup.exe file. These files also work on the 64-bit version of Vista, and on Windows-7, but see the notes below.

64-bit driver issues with Windows-7

On 64-bit Windows Vista, quite a few drivers appear to workcorrectly, including.

  • dvbusbs2102.sys, modified: 16 Oct 2007, file version: 1.0.0.0, size: 57.7KB, In the INF file: [Version], DriverVer-10/16/2007, 1.0.0.4, CatalogFile = DVBUSBS2102AMD64.cat

However, there appears to be an issue with recent DVBWorld drivers on64-bit Windows-7. The following drivers have been reported to work - yes, they are all older drivers rather than the most recent release. My thanksto Alberto Re, Ferdinand Valk, and Ian Deans for these reports and for testingsome drivers which did not work.

  • The driver dated 2008-04-15 which is on GEO's DVBWorld CD version 1 May 2008 works with Windows 7 64 bit. Intel Q9400 system. [Alberto Re]
  • The driver 6.1.02 dated 2007-07-24 on GEO's August 2008 CD. This runs flawlessly since day 1 of Windows 7. No success with later drivers. [Ferdinand Valk]
  • The old Vista 64 DVBworld drivers from 2007/2008. [Ian Deans]
  • The GEO CD which is dated August 2008, but the DVBWorld drivers on that CD are the same as I am using - 6.1.0.2 dated 24/7/2007 - these work fine with Windows 7 64-bit. [Ian Deans]

Ian Deans comments further in this YahooMSG-1 message:

I have spent a good part of this evening looking at the 2009 software/drivers for Windows-7 64-bit that have not been working and it appeared to be a PID problem. The software/drivers I looked at were the DVBWorld drivers V3 (090930 and 091130) and the Dexatek software/drivers DVBS (090616). I have now managed to get all 3 software/drivers working by the following procedure.

  1. Load the drivers/software for 2007 that work, and then remove the software only (Programs and Features control panel).
  2. Load the new 2009 software which will now work.
  3. Finally through Device Manager - Control Panel, manually update the driver for 2009 and all will be working.

I appreciate that if you have a working system using the 2007 software/driver you probably will not need to update. However for my part this has now allowed me to use the Dexatek software/drivers for 2009 which are much more suitable for my Dexatek box and the display and settings are better. I had been using DVBWorld software/drivers 2007 as Dexatek had none for 64-bit.

64-bit driver issues with Windows-8

Dexatek Driver Download Pc

On 64-bit Windows-8 signed drivers are required, in additionto the correct combination of drivers mentioned above. The following is asummary of an exchange between Arne van Belle and Graham Woolf.

Arne: I run version V2.0 from 20080415 successful on 64 bit W7. Later versions only gave me problems and did not add anything for data reception. I suggest running the 20080415 driver, which can be downloaded in the Ziparchive here. Make sure you remove the V3.0 software and drivers first as Windows might refuse to install older drivers over the newer ones.

Graham: Success! Those drivers that you supplied the link for are now workingsuccessfully on Windows 8 pro 64 bit. It was all very straightforward in that I just used your drivers and then added the EKU andTelliCast software from the EUMETSAT CD.

Graham continues by noting the steps required to getWindows-8/64 to accept unsigned drivers:

  1. From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
  2. Click ‘Change PC Settings’
  3. Click ‘General’
  4. Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’
  5. Click ‘Troubleshoot’
  6. Click ‘Advanced Options’
  7. Click ‘Startup Settings’
  8. Click Restart
  9. When Win8 restarts type the number next to 'Disable driver signature enforcement'

This is a once-off procedure - you only need to do this whilecarrying out the driver installation. DJT notes: I also needed to disable driver signing, and found a way of permanentlydisabling it on Windows-7.

Ferdinand Valk notes: [My latest PC] runs Windows 8, 64 bit. It has an Intel i7-3770 CPU 3.4GHz, 4cores; RAM 8GB. I connected an external DVB World USB2 receiver to a USB 2 port. USB3 doesn't produce a reliable data stream. This receiver will be replaced witha new one (same type) as the Strength/Quality readings are nonsensical, but its operations are fine. I just don't like to take chances. The DVBnet ETA adapter driver is 6.3.0.1 dated 2009-07-05The USB DVB-S2102 device driver is 1.0.0.6, dated 2008-03-20. The DVB World software is 3.1 B01 (2009-09-29).

USB 3.0

Dexatek Driver Download

While testing on a new Windows-8/64 system - PC Stamsund - Ifound that the steps Graham described worked nicely, but with the Dexatek boxplugged into a USB 3.0 port the missed packet rate was extremely high, severalthousand packets an hour, producing an unworkable system. Thanks to asuggestion from Arne van Belle, moving to a USB 2.0 port appears to havecompletely solved that issue. What's more, moving the port didn't resultin a fresh device install, which might have required a different network addressfor ease of configuration. Ferdinand Valk also found that USB3 doesn't produce a reliable datastream (as noted above).

Continuing the installation

Double-click on setup.exe to start the install process. On Windows Vista and Windows-7, you may be prompted to authorise the program to continue, unless you havedisabled the User Authorisation Control (UAC) [not recommended]:

Follow all thesteps in the Wizard. Please note that not all the screens you will seeappear in the following section. First, choose your language:

After allowing the installation to proceed, ensure that bothDrivers and Software are checked:

At two points in this process, you will get a warning that thedrivers are unsigned. The dialog looks a little different on Windows Vistaand Windows-7 compared to Windows XP. Click on the 'Install this driver software anyway'box or 'Continue anyway' button:

On Windows XP, I suggest the default installationlocation. Note that in the system I used for testing Program Files happensto be on drive E:, as you can see in the screen-shot below. On my Vistasystem I actually installed to C:ToolsDexatek

You will be prompted to install older versions of the WindowsMedia Player and Direct-X. Have both checked and press Next. Thosecomponents won't be installed if your PC doesn't need updates.

If all has gone well, you should get a successful installation:

Now reboot the computer. The manual notes: 'Ifyou are using a USB2.0 adapter PCI card/PCMCIA etc. to support theUSB2.0, please turn off the USB Box power before you restart the computer. Please restart your computer directly if USB2.0 supported by motherboard.' If required, power-up the USB box once the computer has started. You maysee messages about new hardware found, installing drivers, and the device beingready for use. I'm not sure whether I saw that on my system, though!

Setting up the Dexatek software

Note that the DVBWorld software had a very similar set ofprompts.

For TV operation - do this first

The next steps are to select the satellite and transponder wewant to connect to, and to configure the data connection for EUMETCast use.

Double-click theDexatek icon or DVBWorld icon on your Desktop to start the software:

Note the spanner-shaped configuration icon on the bottomrow. Click it, and use the drop down lists to select the satellite as Eurobird-9, and the transponder asTP14_11977_H_27500.

If you have a more complex LNB setup, you may also need toconfigure the DiSEqC parameters, but for my simple setup Universal LNB was all Ineeded to select. For our application, there is no need to scan the wholesatellite (Scan Sat). Press the 'Scan TP' button to scan theselected transponder for the active TV and radio channels.

Dexatek

After scanning atransponder, you are presented with a choice of what to make available. Select All, FTA (Free-To-Air).

You should be able to select and view TV channels bydouble-clicking after doing this. On the Eurobird-9A transponder, theremay be a single 'TV channel' with the name of 'Testbild',although it may be a different station as these do change from time to time. Note how the name is displayed on the status bar of the DVBWorld screen-shotbelow.

Setup for data operation - do this after the TV setup

Click on the configuration icon again to select theconfiguration dialog, but this time select the IP Config tab. There are anumber of steps to setting up the data operation.

  • In the Transponder information box, select the 11977 (MHz) transponder.
  • Click on the 'Transfer button' so that the transponder appears in the right-hand list as shown above.
  • Click on the TP1 transponder in the right-hand list.
  • In the PID information box, press the Scan PID button.
  • I have found that you might need to add PID by hand before the Scan PID button is enabled. So Click the Add button, click on Decimalization (sic.), enter 100 in the top PID Data box, and press OK.
  • If the PIDs show in hex, and you prefer decimal, follow the previous step to add PID 100. You can use the Windows Calculator in 'Scientific View' to convert from Decimal to Hex and vice-versa.
  • Now press Scan PID. This is easier than entering all the PIDs you need by hand.
  • Select the PIDs you don't want, and press Delete for each PID. There is a list of PIDs here.
  • Be aware that if the data from a particular PID is not flowing when you do the Scan PID, the PID for that data may not get recorded automatically. Be sure to check the list carefully. If you miss a PID associated with data you are allowed to receive, you may get an intermittent red T icon - Check the list of PIDs carefully to avoid this (e.g. PID 302 for DWDSAT data).
  • Press the OK button to close the Configuration dialog.

To start the data flowing, you can press the IP button in thetoolbar.

Note that the IP is shown as flowing by the IP symbol changingfrom red 'standby' to green 'running' at the right-hand-sideof the status bar.

I get a 'COM Surrogate has stopped working' message

It seem that some of the video codecs supplied with both theDexatek and the DVBworld software don't play well with Windows. If thishappens to you, locate the directory containing the Dexatek or DVBworldsoftware, and rename these two files:

M2AToM1A.ax => M2AToM1A.ax.renamed
mpgdec.ax => mpgdec.ax.renamed

This does not appear to stop the video recording function ofthe Dexatek software.

Final tweaks

Dexatek Driver Download Windows 10

Be sure to leave the TV software with a 24-hour workingchannel selected, otherwise when you first start in the morning the signalstrength amy show as zero, and no data will flow when you press the IP button.

My thanks to Ian Deans for his valuable suggestions forimproving this page after testing it out on his own installation.
